Cheese exports increased by 12% in the first half of 2020

In the first half of 2020, cheese and cottage cheese exports increased by 12% compared to the same period last year. In total, Russia has delivered abroad more than 13 thousand tons of this product type for the amount of 43 million dollars.According to the Federal center for export development of agricultural products of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the key segments in the export sales structure are young cheeses (unripe cheese and cottage cheese), which shipments increased by 11% up to 19 million dollars, as well as processed cheeses, which exports increased up to 15 million dollars (+10%). Deliveries of other cheeses amounted to 9 million dollars (+18%).
The main importers of Russian cheese and cottage cheese are CIS countries. About half of the total sales volume is accounted for in Kazakhstan, which increased purchases by 16% to 21 million dollars.
This year was the first time China entered the top ten buyers. Russian cheeses worth 368 thousand dollars were sent to the country, that is four times higher than the whole 2019 year volume. In total, Russian cheese was imported in 21 countries the first half of the year.
