On February 7, Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev held a personal reception of citizens in the Government of the Russian Federation. During meetings with representatives of the public, issues of regional participation in the state program “Integrated Development of Rural Territories”, the development of viticulture, the cultivation of essential oil and medicinal crops, the regulation of domestic seed production and selection were raised.

The Minister discussed the prospect of returning the status of agricultural producer to enterprises engaged in the cultivation of medicinal and essential oil crops with the director of the Crimean agricultural firm "Turgenevskaya" Alexei Mishin. According to the entrepreneur, essential oils can be used both in perfumery and as biological insecticides and plant protection products, which is especially important in connection with the adoption of the Federal Law “On Organic Products”. Moreover, Crimea is a favorable zone for the development of such activities. As Dmitry Patrushev noted, the export of this type of product has significant potential, as well as the development of organic agriculture in the republic. At the moment, the Ministry of Agriculture is working on the inclusion of agricultural producers of essential oil and medicinal crops, as well as plants used in perfumes, pharmaceuticals or as insecticides, in the list of agricultural producers.

Doctor of Science in Agriculture, Academician Oleg Ilyin suggested using developments that significantly accelerate the cultivation of vines for subsequent planting in the ground. Dmitry Patrushev noted that the Ministry systematically supports the development of viticulture in the country. In December 2019, the Law on Viticulture and Winemaking was adopted, which is aimed at supporting this type of activity. At the same time, he emphasized that already today there is an increased interest in the cultivation of this crop in Russia. Last year, the area of planted vineyards amounted to 6942 hectares, which is almost 2 thousand hectares more than in 2018. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture instructed to send the academician’s development to specialized scientific organizations, and also invited the specialist to take part as an expert in the work on the FNTP subprogramme affecting the development of viticulture and to speak at a meeting of the Public Council under the Ministry where this document will be considered.

Following the results of each meeting, the Minister instructed his deputies to work out the issues identified and to assist in their resolution.
