Dmitry Patrushev: Agricultural Education Should Become Innovative
The Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev held an All-Russian meeting with the rectors of agricultural universities as part of a working trip to the Stavropol Region. The participants of the event, which was held in one of the best agricultural universities in Russia, the Stavropol State Agrarian University, discussed current problems of industry education and ways to solve them, modern trends in the development of higher education in the region, new requirements for the training of qualified specialists in the dairy industry, the digital transformation of the Russian agricultural sector, the implementation of integrated scientific and technical programs, as well as other tasks facing educational institutions of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
As the Minister stated at the meeting, the quality of education and its relevance are a priority. “In the coming years, the term “agricultural education” should become a synonym for “innovative education”, since modern agriculture is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the Russian economy, ready to actively introduce new technologies. The training system should be flexible, able to respond quickly to the demands of the times. And the development of human resources is our long-term investment in the industry, ” said Dmitry Patrushev.
The modern system of agricultural education in Russia is 54 higher educational institutions in all federal districts, which annually graduate more than 35 thousand young specialists. The total number of students today exceeds 310 thousand.
According to the Minister, the state is doing a lot for positive changes in the field of agricultural education. This year, 28.3 billion rubles were allocated for support - almost 1.5 billion more than last year. The material and technical base is being updated, new educational methods are being introduced, and the professional level of teachers is being improved. This makes the process of obtaining knowledge more and more effective, which has a positive effect on the prestige of agricultural specialties.
According to Dmitry Patrushev, among the main results of the work of agricultural universities in 2019, one can note an increase in scientific activity, an increase in the number of foreign students and an increase in the share of students in specialized agricultural specialties (up to 74%).
An important task is to increase the attractiveness of agricultural professions for graduates. The implementation of the State Program "Integrated Development of Rural Areas" from 2020, which provides for a whole block of measures, will contribute to this. These are new roads, the development of communications, comfortable housing and a more affordable mortgage - all this will change the appearance of rural areas and attract young professionals to the village over the next five years.
The Minister also called for special attention to be paid to the effective career guidance of young professionals and the development of an industry-wide system of professional qualifications that will help synchronize the needs of employers and training programs.
After the meeting, Dmitry Patrushev examined the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Stavropol State Agrarian University, its clinical facilities and equipment, laboratories and operating rooms, as well as the equestrian area. The Minister praised the comfortable conditions created at the university and the work done to create a unique educational base.
