The co-chairmen of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Dmitry Patrushev, the Minister of Agriculture of Russia, and Ayman Benabderrahmane, the Minister of Finance of Algeria, held a session on December 17.

The meeting was focused on the current state of trade and economic cooperation and the potential for its development. Dmitry Patrushev stated that the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria could be significant for the further development of trade relations.

Agriculture is an important focus of bilateral cooperation. Russian grain accounts for a considerable part of the agricultural trade. Currently, Russia is one of the world's largest exporter of wheat. Dmitry Patrushev noted that the country considers Algeria to be one of the most promising markets.

Industrial cooperation was also a topic of discussion. Dmitry Patrushev emphasised that there is a significant potential in the automotive and chemical industries, power engineering, metallurgy, and other sectors. Intensified cooperation between the relevant Russian and Algerian agencies in this area would contribute to developing bilateral relations.

At the end of the meeting, Dmitry Patrushev expressed his confidence that the Russian-Algerian dialogue would remain constructive and mutually beneficial.
