The Stavropol region hosted the international congress exhibition PRO Yabloko 2021, one of the key business events in the national horticulture. Dzhambulat Khatuov, First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia, attended the plenary session.Horticulture is one of the most promising and high-tech sub-sectors in agriculture, actively supported by the state. Domestic farmers have increased the area of orchards and almost doubled the marketable production of fruits and berries over the past five years. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture predicts that another record will be reached in 2021, with at least 1.5 million tonnes of fruit and berries collected in the organised sector. And this figure is expected to rise to 2.2 million tonnes over the next five years.
This year, horticulture was selected as one of the priority areas for state support in 53 regions of the country, demonstrating its high potential and investment attractiveness. As Dzhambulat Khatuov said, for further successful development of the sub-industry, special attention must be paid to providing farmers with domestic high-quality planting material and to the technical modernisation of enterprises. It is also important to intensify work on establishing modern storage and processing facilities.
